MG MAZE is designed to be a car sharing vehicle to which ‘players’ gain access via their mobile devices that will serve as the primary control of this semi-autonomous concept. It attempts to integrate the physical and digital worlds by having drivers participate in a real-world easter egg hunt of digital art in their cities. The goal of using the vehicle is to re-discover new content in previously familiar surroundings — a visceral exploration with limitless possibilities in which players can compete for rewards.
MG MAZE explores a unique way to engage with the next generation of digital natives and test out a provocative idea for future mobility experiences, in which escapism and exploration could be accessed via a new urban mobility solution. The design conveys a true gaming experience through its open cockpit layout, which provides a full panoramic view of the environment. The full polycarbonate shell canopy opens vertically, allowing players to enter through the front into the zero-gravity seats that extend to greet them. The players ride in the car using their phones as access and control. An elaborate augmented 3D User Interface overlays images and digital content with the occupant’s perspective.
AR technologies have enabled the design team to broaden the scope of the UI design. Familiar elements, such as the navigation map, are given a new aesthetic, appearing to be projected on the road ahead for a more engaging and compelling way to navigate the environment. MG MAZE aims to create a playful, agile and engaging mobility experience for digital urbanites of all ages, cultures and interests.
