In Chinese, ‘ruyi’ means ‘meeting your wishes’. ‘Ruyi Bang’ is also the magical staff wielded by Sun Wukong, the immortal Monkey King in the Chinese mythology, Journey to the West. The Monkey King shrinks his staff down to a needle and hides it behind his ear when it is not in use. The design of the Ruyi Bang is inspired by this story. The pole-like structure of the lamp can be bent at different angles to create lamps of different heights, from desk to floor lamp. Since it can be bent and folded, the Ruyi Lamp can also be ‘shrunken’ to be packed compactly into the packaging box.
