The people of the Seediq indigenous tribe of Taiwan believe that when they die, their souls must pass the Rainbow Bridge test. Only those with facial tattoos and skills in hunting and weaving can cross the rainbow bridge and unite with the ancestors.
The clothing is mostly made of knitted fabrics, with three designed and woven patterns. One is an embossed knitted fabric inspired by the Rainbow Bridge, while the other two feature the Seediq tribe’s totem. To support the curved silhouette of the garment, three or four strands of cotton yarn are used each time to weave the fabrics, making the garment thick and stiff.
The many curved lines in the garments not only make the collection interesting, but also represent shapeless souls that can take on different forms. Bias binding is used to highlight the curved outlines. The main colours of the garments are yellow, nile blue, turquoise, pale lilac and persimmon. These bright tones create a happy party-like atmosphere that makes a lively collection.
