One of the most critical tasks in the aircraft manufacturing process is the drilling of millions of holes into the fuselage. Although a large part of the drilling can be carried out automatically, 35% is executed manually due to the complex construction. The big challenge is that these holes must also meet the same high precision as automatically drilled holes.
GYRONE takes handheld drilling procedure to the next level and improves the process by supporting the operator. It is made up of four components: the guidance unit, which provides the technician with information about the position and characteristics of the hole to be drilled; a digital spirit level for accurate positioning; a scroll wheel and finger bu-tton for controls; and an internal gyroscopic stabilisation unit.
