PulpaTronics has made sustainability a core aspect of its mission by disrupting the RFID industry with its sustainable and cost-effective paper RFID tags. Unlike traditional single-use RFID tags — which typically include a microchip and a me-tal antenna, making them extremely resource intensive and expensive to produce — these chipless and carbon-ba-sed paper RFID tags use sustainable materials such as locally sourced paper. This effectively reduces overall costs and emissions while preserving more of the world’s resources.
PulpaTronics aims to simplify over-engineered RFID tags by creating novel tags that do not require me-tal extraction, which makes them less expensive and more compatible with existing recycling systems. Using innovative laser technology that induces a conductive circuit directly onto paper, the encoded information is stored in the geometric pattern of the conductive material. This eliminates the need for me-tal antennas and silicon chips while also streamlining the manufacturing process into fewer steps and using less energy. CO2 emissions are reduced by 70%, and costs are cut in half, all while significantly reducing the environmental footprint of RFID tag production. Through innovative design and technology, PulpaTronics redefines RFID standards for a sustainable future, one tag at a time.
