Environmental awareness and conscious living are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, waste separation has long been an internalised process representing the capability of every individual to make a small contribution to a circular economy. Although kitchen waste can easily be composted, most households dispose of it separately. To simplify the composting process and to also provide an aesthetic addition to the home kitchen, the product designers at Final Kitchen developed a compact food waste recycler that offers intuitive operation for people of all age groups. Optionally available in black or white, the recycler unit elegantly assimilates itself into any kitchen environment. Final Kitchen uses microorganisms to naturally decompose food waste in an entirely natural, eco-friendly way that also prevents mould formation and secondary contamination. The waste inside the unit is continuously stirred by four agitator blades, and unpleasant odours are held at bay by activated charcoal and photocatalytic filters. To ensure hygienic use, an infrared sensor was developed to automatically open Final Kitchen’s lid as soon as it detects hands close to the unit. When the lid closes, the composting process starts automatically and, when liquid leftovers are added, a drying process can be activated. The unit’s purist design with its organic rounded edges automatically directs attention to the digital display. Final Kitchen’s user interface is designed for simplicity with only three buttons for the most important functions and a centrally positioned illuminated ring to add visual structure. The contrast between the matte body and the shiny digital display is also interesting. “The Final Kitchen food waste recycler’s purist, elegant form makes it suitable for discreet and flexible integration into the kitchen environment. Using microorganisms to decompose food waste is a practical solution that simplifies and improves the efficiency of separating and disposing of household waste,” said the jury.
