SHELLMET is the World's First Helmet made of scallop shells.
Scallops are the most eaten shellfish in Japan, and the most disposed shells. In Hokkaido's Sarufutsu Village where the country's largest scallops are caught, roughly 40,000 tons of shells are discarded on shore. These shells cause foul odor and generate heavy me-tal from its viscera remains, causing soil pollution.
In such situations, we aimed to transform shells into new resources benefitting the local community. As a result, the usage of materials containing recycled shells led to cutting down CO2 emission by 36% compared to regular plastic, during the helmet's production process.

SHELLMET 是全球首款以扇贝壳制成的头盔。扇贝是日本食用量最高的贝类动物，因此丢弃的贝壳数量也最多。北海道猿払村是日本大型扇贝的捕捞地，海岸边约有 40,000 吨被丢弃的贝壳。这些贝壳会散发恶臭，其内脏残骸更会累积重金属，从而污染土壤。面对这些情况，我们的目标是将贝壳转变为造福当地社区的新资源。因此在制造头盔的过程中，相较于普通塑料，使用含回收贝壳的材料可减少 36% 的二氧化碳排放量。
