In recent years, coffee culture has celebrated something akin to a renaissance. For a long time, the focus was on fast coffee. Today, the art of coffee-making with the promise of darkly delicious results has seen a rise in popularity. Coffee gourmets know that to unlock their full potential the beans have to be precisely ground to the ideal degree of fineness, depending on the coffee type, so that the aromas can develop in water at the perfect temperature. Opus is an entry-level electric coffee grinder developed to grind both full-bodied espresso beans and lightly roasted varieties. Thanks to over 40 settings, the grinder can effortlessly achieve the perfect degree of fineness for a wide range of brewing styles – for espresso machines, the pour-over method, French press, cold brew and everything in between. First-time grinder users appreciate the volumetric dosing lid, which eliminates the need to weigh out the coffee beans. Experienced espresso connoisseurs can use the inner ring to easily make granular adjustments for shots, and there is a catch cup for mess-free transitions. This concentration on the essential functions of a coffee grinder enables intuitive operation, while also making the minimalist look and compact form feasible. “The grind-size adjustment ring is very well thought out. It glides around the markings on the body with the perfect level of resistance. The subdued clicking sound provides reassuring and subtle feedback to the user that this is a quality product,” remarked the jurors. They were also particularly impressed by the catch cup with its smooth magnet, which automatically and securely guides it into position. The understated and elegant black design is set apart by its intelligent contrasts. A rectangular grooved casing for the motor fits flush against the smooth cylindrical grinder and the catch cup underneath it. “The geometric configuration is perfectly proportioned and inviting, thus encouraging use. Fit, feel and finish are united with practical function in the Opus,” summed up the jury. And thanks to its compact size, the coffee grinder can fit into even the smallest of kitchens.
