The Polestar CUBE: My entry for the first edition of the Polestar Design contest. I was part of the Top 5 finalists in the students' category. The CUBE is in an all-electric 4-seater Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) taxi powered by VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) technology. The intent of the CUBE is to contribute to Polestar’s sustainability mission by reducing the footprint of ground transportation and empowering an increased number of people to be connected to urbanized regions. It will do so by linking urban centers with suburbs while leapfrogging traffic, and thus saving people hours in commute time. It will also thus facilitate an inter-connected network of socio-economic zones within any urban region. The autonomous urban aircraft market may be worth $1.5 trillion by 2040, according to a Morgan Stanley Research study. The CUBE could play a key role in this market by utilizing the infrastructure provided by Polestar Spaces and Google’s network and technology. It would contribute to an extremely convenient shared mobility model that would facilitate intra-city as well as inter-city travel. I am proud of this very intent of my concept, since this is what Polestar is all about. A sense of empowerment, through clean, striking, honest design, often exposing what is beneath the surface. I pride myself on the Cube’s iconic silhouette and proportions, while having achieved an aesthetic that embodies the saying “less is more”.
