Although at the heart of disease diagnosis and patient monitoring, CT scans can be subject to procedural delays, which can lead to substantial waiting times, inefficiencies and finally even stress for patients. The design of the head CT scanner SOMATOM On.site complements the concept of permanently installed computed tomography devices by a solution for the intensive care unit: a new type of portable device with an impressive shape and functionality. By merging the agility of mobile X-ray devices with the image quality of CT scan systems, it establishes a new category for imaging devices. As a mobile device, this scanner is easy to move and therefore offers many advantages. For example, being able to perform and handle CT scans promptly and directly at the patient’s bed is a huge benefit in flexibility that changes the workflow drastically. Another advantage is that the system allows even cross-trained staff to acquire images of consistent and reliable quality. Equipped with an intuitive touch display, the user interface is comfortable to operate. The concise design of the mobile head CT scanner clearly reflects and aestheticises its area of application in everyday clinical use. Showcasing a minimalist design and a pioneering functionality geared towards mobile use, this device is well proportioned and can be easily moved around to wherever needed. As a well-thought-out platform, it offers a wide range of possibilities for the optimisation of processes in everyday clinical practice.
